Barona Resort & Casino will remain closed until further notice
15 Apr 2020
Below is the official announcement:
Barona is now temporarily closed until further notice to help stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Prior to our temporary closure Barona followed all guidelines set forth by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and took many steps and extra precautions to maintain a clean and safe environment for our staff and players.
We encouraged all players over 65 and people with underlying chronic medical conditions to stay home and self-isolate through casino signage and marketing.
Social distancing was observed on the casino floor and in all of our restaurants. We had signs up throughout the property and asked everyone to keep a respectful social distance from others. We limited the number of people in all spaces. We closed our poker room, closed the spa, decreased the number of people in our restaurants, maintained a 250-seat maximum in our buffet, closed two out of every three slot machines, removed chairs to minimize the number of people on table games, among many other things.
The buffet went from self-service to a full-service format with staff serving the food items.
Barona’s robust cleaning protocols have always been the highest in the industry. The following are examples of dozens of enhancements and protocols currently in effect at Barona to ensure you’re playing in the cleanest casino environment!
- State-of-the-art, triple-stage air filtration system that incorporates Ultra Violet (UV) light that refreshes and disinfects the air on a continual basis
- 80+ Purell hand cleansing stations throughout the casino floor, casino entrances and hotel lobby with even more on the way
- Barona has always provided cleansing wipes to all of our players at our Club Barona booths. We are increasing the distribution of the wipes on the casino floor and throughout the property, as well as upon request. With 40 disinfectant wet wipe stations that are expected to arrive soon.
- Increased frequency disinfecting all touch points including: push plates and door handles; slot machine glass; table game rims; chairs; escalators; all touch points in hotel rooms; food court outlet counters; and more
- Barona has also increased the frequency and extent of cleaning and sanitizing in all of our restaurants. We are stepping up sanitizing counters, table tops and chairs along with other touchpoints such as menus.
- Continue to only use disinfectants that are effective against viruses
- Barona is cleaning and sanitizing dice after every roll, increasing the frequency of changing our cards on table games and washing and disinfecting all of the casino chips at least once a day.
- Our staff members are also actively involved in Barona’s prevention efforts and procedures and policies are reviewed daily. A few examples include: using hand sanitizer before clocking in/out; washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds several times a day especially before returning to a work area; as well as staying home when they are sick.
We will continue to monitor the information from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), and federal, state and local agencies to help ensure the actions we are taking are in accordance with the latest recommendations. We communicate regularly with our staff to keep them informed for their safety and the safety of our players. It is possible for our players to responsibly social distance while at Barona because Barona has always been the most spacious casino with the widest aisles and the most open floor space that isn’t occupied by slots or table games. Barona continues to be the cleanest casino in San Diego. These practices are part of what Barona has always been, not just now, but every day.
With over 1,000 dedicated non-smoking slot machines, two dedicated non-smoking table game pits, and a 15-table non-smoking poker room, Barona is the largest non-smoking casino in San Diego, California! Not to mention ALL of our eateries are non-smoking and any table game on the casino floor can be non-smoking upon request.
We also implemented a state of the art air purification system back in 2015, which helps our non-smoking sections to have the cleanest casino air in San Diego!
