Australian Clubs Looking to Run Sports Betting Sites
AUSTRALIA -- As reported by the Australian: "AFL clubs are looking to generate millions of dollars by running their own sports betting sites.
"As the AFL seeks an avenue into the $1.5 billion sports betting market, clubs are considering a punt on creating their own income from web-based betting agencies.
"The idea is based on the lucrative English Premier League soccer system, which allows supporters to bet through club websites.
"Clubs such as Arsenal use bookmakers, including Ladbrokes, to run their sports books, with an estimated 30 per cent of revenue going to the club.
"At present, AFL clubs receive no direct revenue from football betting, although the loss-making TipStar returns a dividend to the AFL.
