Atlantic City bad beat jackpot hits once again

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City announced that at 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, its Total Bad Beat Jackpot of $307,482 hit at Caesars Atlantic City, marking 20 Total Bad Beat Jackpots, averaging more than one each month since its debut in August 2010. Nearly $5 million in cash has been reaped by the well-known “Bad Beat” of the poker world, arguably one of the most exciting jackpots in gaming today.

On Tuesday, August 24, 2010, Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City introduced the City’s first-ever multi-casino Texas Hold’em Poker Room Bad Beat Jackpot initiative, and a starting jackpot of $524,045. Poker Room Bad Beat Jackpots at Harrah’s Resort, Caesars, Bally’s and Showboat now reflect one “Pooled” jackpot up for grabs. The bad beat jackpot is a prize that is paid when a sufficiently strong hand is shown down and loses to an even stronger hand held by another player. The Bad beat jackpot is progressive, with $1.00 taken out of each pot to fund the jackpot (in addition to the regular rake). When a jackpot is won, it will be split among all players sitting at a Bad Beat eligible table and in all of the Harrah’s Total Reward Poker rooms in Atlantic City at the time of the bad beat with the losing hand getting the largest share.

In addition to the 25 Caesars poker room players, 117 fellow poker players at Harrah's Resort Atlantic City, Bally's Atlantic City - Wild Wild West Casino - Claridge Casino and Showboat Atlantic City each received a payout of $1,068 as part of the pooled jackpot.

The player who thought he had the winning hand laid out his quad fours, only to experience a bad beat when the other player flashed a quad eights and the win. The losing hand earned $93,313 while the player who had the winning hand added $62,565 to his wallet. The Total Bad Beat Jackpot was immediately reset to $100,000, with a qualifying hand of quad queens.
