Ask Frank (Playing Winning Craps)

Dear Mr. Scoblete:

In your book Forever Craps, you recommend to play one Don't Come bet per shooter without odds in order to reduce your exposure to the house. I usually play at casinos that count the spread and odds. If I play one DC per shooter, will I still be rated? Do I need to play every shooter or every roll to be rated? On the right side, if I use the five count will I still be rated?

Dear Dan:

Whether a casino rates you on a spread or on one bet, it is the total wagered that counts. If you have one don't come bet for $120 or if you place the 6 and 8 for $60 each, you'll be rated as a $120 player.

I have found two people in 12 years who said that utilizing the 5-Count reduced or hurt their comps. Most craps players have some system that let's them decide whom to bet on, so not betting every roll and every shooter probably won't hurt your rating. In fact, when it helps, which is just about always, you'll get more comps than your action actually warrants.
