Ask Frank: Must Hold 'Em Winners Show Their Hands?

3 Sep 2004

By Frank Scoblete

Frank:

During a recent Hold-em game, one of the players - he had won the hand, showed only the the one card, that would make him a winner. The guy that called him demanded to see both cards, but the winner claimed he only has to show the one that won. Can you give me a ruling on this. We try to play using Vegas rules.

Thanks,
Tom

Dear Tom:

Is this a private game? If so, the person whose house the game is in determines the rules. How did he rule? Whatever he says, goes.

In Vegas, the casino makes the rules. If the casino says you must show your whole winning hand, then you do. If the casino says you only have to show the cards that made you the winner, then you do.

All the best in and out of the casinos!
