Ask Frank: How Long Before a Hot Roller?

25 Oct 2004

By Frank Scoblete

Dear Frank,

I enjoy craps and I am very patient. To me craps is at best a game of long periods of losing a little (hopefully) interrupted by short periods of winning -- a lot (hopefully). My question is how long do you feel you have to play before the table has a hot roller, say, a 15-minute hot roller or a 30-minute hot roller? I'm not looking for a dissertation on probability theory, just your mindset when you walk up to the table as to how long you expect to ride out the cold periods.

Thanks,
Ted

Dear Ted:

The answer you want doesn't exist as something I can say definitively. You can go for hours without a long roll or you can walk up to a table and you can have several long rolls in a row. With that said, I think a long roll of 15 minutes to 30 minutes will occur about once every 100 to 200 shooters. Now, the cold periods do last longer if you don't use the 5-Count. By using the 5-Count you can eliminate approximately 57 percent of all the random rollers. Your money will last long enough hopefully to get on the hot shooters this way.

If you are really serious about beating craps, you might consider taking a course on controlled shooting. Call 1-866-SET-DICE for more information or go to this website: www.goldentouchcraps.com.

All the best in and out of the casinos!
