An Introduction

My name may sound familiar to many of you. I am Elliot Frome and I am the son of Lenny Frome, whom I'm sure many of you have heard of. My dad was generally regarded as one of the top gaming authors and analysts until his passing in 1998. His work is credited for having made Video Poker as wildly popular as it is today.

I'm just at the beginning of my career as a gaming author, analyst and consultant. I graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor's of Science, majoring in Computer Science and Business Administration. I spent the early part of my career as a systems consultant for a 'Big Eight' consulting firm. I then moved on to work for a large corporation in the Health Care Industry. After spending 15 years as a programmer, analyst, systems designer and business analyst, I decided to pursue a more personally rewarding career in the gaming industry.

I'm a top notch programmer and I've always been very strong at math, so I figured I had the skills for this profession. I programmed a Blackjack analyzer on my High School computer more than 20 years ago, so I knew I also had the gambling 'bug' in my blood. Just to satisfy myself, I sat down to create a Video Poker engine to analyze and determine strategy tables. There were a lot of these out there already commercially, but I felt that I needed to have my own so that when I wrote about strategy, it would truly be my own strategy. This would also allow me to tailor it to whatever new varieties of Video Poker that show up on the scene without relying on anyone else. It took a couple of months to write and after much testing, I felt it was complete. I was now armed and ready to start my own career as an author and analyst.

Last spring, I updated our book Expert Video Poker for Las Vegas to include information about Bonus Poker. This past fall I released a new booklet Expert Strategy for Three Card Poker. As of this writing, you can find my articles bi-weekly in Gaming Today and this weekly column on-line at Casino City Times.

So, how does all this help you?

I'll be writing a weekly column here at Casino City Times. For the most part, it will cover Video Poker. I'll go through some basic points and some finer points. I'll write about a wide variety of different versions, from the original Jacks or Better to the newer games such as Multi-Stirke and Big Split. My goal is to make you an Expert Player, which means maximizing your chance to win in the long run.

I'll also be writing about a wide variety of other Casino games with an emphasis on the newer games. I'll cover Caribbean Stud, Let It Ride, Spanish 21 and Three Card Poker. As newer games appear I'll do my best to get you the information you need to become an Expert Player at those games as well.
