Ami Barer wins Aussie Millions Main Event for $1.6 million
10 Feb 2014
The largest and most anticipated day of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship is the ‘Main Event’, now part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT).
Ami Barer was then presented with the widely-cherished and universally-revered custom made diamond-encrusted rose gold bracelet by LK Jewellery valued at AUD$40,000, representing the game’s ultimate achievement, a trophy and all the glory for his efforts.
The triumph was both a mental and physical marathon, after Barer overcame a field of 668 entrants from all over the globe, who participated in Crown’s Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’.
The Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’, with a buy-in of AUD$10,600, began on Sunday 2 February, and took eight days to complete, with the final duel being played in front of a packed house of nearly 100 spectators and a worldwide audience following the action over the internet.
Millions more will watch the final crescendo of the 2014 Aussie Millions Poker Championship ‘Main Event’ later in the month, when local and international television programming is confirmed.
The runner up was fellow Canadian Sorel Mizzi, who is the only player to have ever made the Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’ Final Table twice. Despite the disappointment of defeat, he could take great pride in a noble effort that resulted in overcoming all but one of the 668 players who began the pursuit of every poker player's greatest dream. Mizzi collected a supreme consolation prize of AUD$1,000,000 in prize money.
Crown congratulates Ami Barer on his tremendous accomplishment after playing superb poker over a prolonged period against a record field that included virtually every single top poker professional and hundreds of talented amateurs from Australia and around the globe.
