Ameristar Fined for Jackpot Limits
MISSOURI – As reported by the Kansas City Star: "Pai gow poker players at Ameristar's Kansas City casino were prevented from winning the top prize of $62,500 because the company had improperly posted a $20,000 lid on jackpots.
"The Missouri Gaming Commission on Wednesday fined the casino $5,000. The commission forbids table-game payout limits to be less than the amount of each game's maximum bet times its maximum odds.
"Ameristar limits pai gow wagers to $25, and the commission said the odds of a player getting the game's top hand were 2,500 to 1, which would require a top jackpot of $62,500.
"Steve Johnson, the commission's acting director, said there was no way to determine how long the improper jackpot limits had been in place at Ameristar's five Fortune Pai Gow tables, nor whether any player had been underpaid…"
