MISSOURI – As reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "Ameristar Casinos Inc. nipped Harrah's Entertainment Inc. for the top spot in the St. Louis casino market in March, with both companies topping the state's previous record for monthly winnings.

"Ameristar won $26.6 million from gamblers at its casino in St. Charles, up 3.9 percent from a year ago. The take eclipsed its old mark, $26.2 million, set last August.

"Harrah's won $26.5 million at its property in Maryland Heights, a jump of 25 percent, according to figures made public Monday by the Missouri Gaming Commission. Harrah's opened a new 211-room hotel tower seven months ago, boosting its lodging capacity by more than 70 percent.

"…In addition, the President Casino on the Admiral had its best month in more than 11/2 years, winning $6.55 million in March.

"…The five casinos in the St. Louis region had combined adjusted gross receipts -- or total bets minus total payouts -- of $84.2 million in March, up 8.7 percent from a year earlier…"
