Alonso Sets Pulses Racing and Hearts Fluttering

4 May 2005

LONDON, UK -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- While the battle for on-track supremacy between Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher will undoubtedly be the focus of this Sunday's Grand Prix, the Renault number one's rugged good looks put him in pole position in the love stakes, far ahead of his German rival, according to a poll by GrandPrixGame.com, the largest skill-based pools betting game for F1 enthusiasts.

GrandPrixGame.com asked some of its female players to rank the current crop of drivers in order of who was the best looking and, Alonso, in keeping with his position in the drivers' championship, came out head and shoulders above his rivals in a dramatic one / two for Renault.

Alonso, whose brilliant display of defensive driving at the San Marino Grand Prix drew a Spanish TV audience in excess of seven million, is the driver that's most likely to get female fans' pulses racing with just under one-fifth (19%) naming him as the most attractive. There was even better news for the Renault team with Giancarlo Fisichella picking up the second highest number of votes with 16%.

McLaren Mercedes' injured Columbian flyer Juan Pablo Montoya attracted 13%, followed in fourth place by Sauber's 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve (10%), and Britain's fresh-faced BAR driver Jensen Button (9%).

Despite his unprecedented number of Grand Prix victories (58) and widely regarded as the best driver of his generation, Ferrari's Michael Schumacher came fourth from bottom of F1's most desirable with just 4% of the vote. Toyota's Jarno Trulli, Williams BMW's Nick Heidfeld and Red Bull driver David Coulthard followed Schumacher.

GrandPrixGame.com Managing Director Jon El-Kadhi said: "Being top of the leader board going into a Grand Prix is the place where every F1 driver would want to be, but to be named as the sexiest driver by our female players as well must rank a pretty good second. I've always thought that success was attractive to the opposite sex, but Michael's lowly position in the voting suggests that may not always be the case."

GrandPrixGame.com simultaneously announced the launch of the Spanish language version of its pools betting game.

About GrandPrixGame.com

GrandPrixGame.com, whose players can currently win in excess of £11,000 for predicting the first six finishers at the Spanish Grand Prix, simultaneously announces that a Spanish language version of the game is available on its website. GrandPrixGame.com is the largest instant pools betting game created for the 2005 Formula One Grand Prix season. To win the open-ended jackpot, which has hit the £11,000 mark, even prior the qualifying rounds, the player must use their skill to predict which drivers will be the first six to cross the finish line. Each selection costs just £1, all of which is added to the GrandPrixGame.com jackpot, plus a call/web charge. Selections can be made on the website www.grandprixgame.com or in the UK through a fixed line or mobile phone (09051 680 780), right up to the parade lap. If more than one player successfully predicts a race's outcome then the jackpot will be equally split. If no one wins, then the prize fund is rolled over.
