50th Anniversary Series to be on WSOP.com

9 Sep 2020

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The World Series of Poker was founded in 1970 and has been running continuously and breaking records since its creation. To date, the WSOP has paid out over $3.3 billion in prize money, while offering unprecedented television and media exposure for its winners. Given the continued interruption of live tournaments due to the public health emergency around COVID-19, today WSOP announced a new online series celebrating its 50 years of poker action.

The “50th Anniversary Series” online poker festival, running now through Sunday, 27 September, will feature 50 special themed tournaments including “groovy” freezouts with no re-entry, as was customary in the early years of WSOP. Featuring both low-stakes Player Appreciation tournaments and a greater number of “high-rollers,” the 50th Anniversary series aims to replicate the WSOP experience, offering something of interest for every player. In total $3 million in guaranteed prize money will be offered across the 50 themed tournaments.

Each Wednesday throughout the festival will feature a “Free Love Freeroll” of $10,000 to reward WSOP.COM players. Sundays will kick up the action, highlighted by a $100,000 guaranteed tournament for only $50+5 on Sunday, 20 September, as well as a massive $505,050 guarantee Main Event with a $555 buy in on Sunday, 27 September.

Coming off the record-breaking success of WSOP Online in July, which saw 44,229 entries and a total prize pool of $26.9 million, organizers are hopeful to jumpstart the fall campaign. “It was the biggest summer ever for online poker and WSOP.COM is committed to keeping the momentum going for our US players through aggressive promotions and tournament series,” said Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the WSOP.
