The Northern Territory is a fully regulated online gaming licensing jurisdiction. Northern Territory online gaming licenses have no prescribed annual or other fees beyond a 4% negotiated tax rate. There is no limit on the number of online gaming licenses issued, but only those applicants considered to be of the highest credibility are considered.
The Interactive Gambling Act allows Australian licensing authorities to enter into new Operators' Agreements with online gambling licensees, within defined parameters. The federal legislation simply precludes Australian gambling operators from offering their services to Australian residents, except for lotteries and sports and race wagering.
The Department of Treasury and Finance is responsible for the Gaming Control Act insofar as it is related to taxes and levies for the Northern Territory of Australia.

The Northern Territory Licensing Commission was abolished on 1 January 2015, effectively simplifying the process for licensees to operate. Licensees now interact with the Director-General of Licensing.
