William Hill happy with World Cup

LONDON, England -- England may have performed dismally at the World Cup, but bookmakers enjoyed a bountiful World Cup, The Guardian reported.

William Hill said the World Cup was "very lucrative" for them, the report said.

Much of the money came from the final match Netherlands vs Spain, the England matches also took high betting, The Guardian said.

Ascot was not such a winner for William Hill last month, it cost the bookmaker $1.5 million-a-day, the report noted.
