Tribe win first round in casino fight

10 Aug 2011

PHOENIX, Arizona -- A Federal Judge has ruled in favour of the Tohono O'odham Nation 54 acres of land being designated a reservation, Fox Phoenix reported.

The tribe wants to build a casino on the land, despite local opposition from Glendale and the Governor, the report said.

There's likely to be an appeal on the decision and the Governor has already signed a law to prevent the project, Fox Phoenix said.
