Tribe challenges union vote
CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Connecticut Day: "The Mashantucket Pequot tribe filed its legal challenge to union efforts at Foxwoods Resort Casino late Wednesday with the National Labor Relations Board in Washington.
"Although the legal document was not available late Wednesday, the request for review includes refinements of the tribe's legal argument — already on file with the regional NLRB in Hartford — that the agency has no jurisdiction regarding federal labor law over Foxwoods because the casino is on tribal grounds and subject to tribal law, said tribal spokesman Bruce MacDonald.
"...Regional NLRB Director Peter Hoffman has already rejected that argument, setting the stage for a request for review by the five-person federal labor relations board.
"...The United Auto Workers union has successfully petitioned for an election for about 3,000 dealers at Foxwoods, and a date of Nov. 24 has been set for that vote..."
