The Reel Life: 15 minutes for 15 years edition
10 May 2012
Detroit's Kenny "Boom" Smith, however, wasn't averse to printing his own money, at least not at first. But when he started to worry that he might get caught paying for things with counterfeit money, he decided to get rid of the bills. Like any true businessman, however, Smith didn't want to just abandon what could be a considerable asset. So he tried to pawn both the fake cash and the machine he used to print the bills.
Going to a cash business to try to get paid real cash for your fake cash probably is pretty stupid. Doing it at American Jewelry and Loan, the pawn shop featured on the truTV show "Hardcore Pawn," is even stupider. After trying to sell his wares to shop owner Les Gold, Gold clued in the Secret Service. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
Apparently Smith really wanted his 15 minutes of fame. But now, he might also be looking at 15 years in prison.
