Rummy: Bigger than poker?

1 Feb 2010

Okay, stop laughing. Seriously. Yeah, seems impossible to even begin to comprehend a situation where rummy will strip poker (hehehe, I said strip poker) of its title as the internet's most popular card game, but in dark corners there are whisperings that rummy could be a revolution.

Let's face it, it's massively popular offline. In fact, more people could sit down and give you a game of rummy than those that could give you a game of Texas Hold'em. It's more international too, with fan bases in Eastern Europe, the US, Asia and, well, pretty much everywhere, and with the rise of Rummy Royal we have a network that looks good and functions well. All told it's where online poker was say 15 years ago. It just needs a spark in the shape of liquidity and increased awareness in the offline rummy communities to set it all off. Those that get involved now may make a killing at the rummy tables while the rummy fish learning the ropes and happy players mean ecstatic affiliates and operators. So is this the year of the rummy? Yeah, it could well be.

So, how will the word spread? Initially it's for operators to get those playing offline to the digital tables and get across that they could turn a hobby into a real money maker. Affiliates should be looking at poker players and saying, "Hey, if you know rummy, and have a head for strategy, then why not give rummy a go and clean up while the going is good". If just 5% of poker players give rummy a shot this year, even if just to exploit the newbies, then we have an awful lot of rummy players out there. Combine that with offline rummy players joining the fold and there should be a self-sustaining, profitable network very soon. Bigger than poker though? Well, maybe not just yet, but who knows, soon maybe. And if not bigger than poker this year, a serious gaming product nonetheless.

That leaves where people can play. There are limited options, to be honest. Pioneering the technology is Rummy Royal, but there's something wrong about playing with a software manufacture in my opinion. As far as I'm aware that leaves just one other site: 32Red Rummy. I've waxed lyrical about 32Red before, but if I were to put faith in one company to deliver, and deliver fairly, it would be 32Red. Their online casino has won countless awards, it's publically listed and you can drop an email to the CEO, should you feel inclined (and expect an answer!). So check out online rummy for yourself at 32Red Rummy – you may well be pleasantly surprised.
