Rincon Says it Could Take 50 percent Hit From Gambling Compact
SACRAMENTO -- As reported by Sign on San Diego: `` A San Diego County tribe has asked a federal court to block the state's new Indian gambling agreements, saying the promise of unlimited slot machines for other tribes could cut its gambling revenues in half.
''The move on Monday by the Rincon band, which operates a large but more remote casino-resort in Valley Center, escalates a legal challenge and potential political fight over five new gambling agreements, or compacts, signed last week.
"Rincon filed a motion for a temporary restraining order in a San Diego federal court. The motion is scheduled for a hearing on Friday. The tribe already has a lawsuit pending against the compacts.
``Any legal delay could be a serious setback for the new deals. They must be ratified before the Legislature adjourns on Aug. 31 to take effect before next year..."
