Phuket to crack down on World Cup gambling

PHUKET, Thailand -- As fans gear up for the World Cup, authorities in Phuket are ready to crack down on gambling, The Phuket Gazette reported.
The Phuket governor requested local police are alert to illegal gambling shops and promised anyone caught would be prosecuted, The Phuket Gazette said.
Back in World Cup 2006 229 people were arrested locally, the report noted.
