Pennsylvania casino accidentally offers $29 million in credits
DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pennsylvania -- As reported by WFMZ-TV: "It's a mistake that could cost a Berks County-based casino company more than $7 million. Penn National Gaming is trying to figure out how a promotional flyer offering $500 in free slot machine credits and coupons for a free buffet at its Hollywood Casino near Harrisburg was sent to 55,000 of its customers.
"Officials for Penn National say the mailing should have only been sent to fewer than 1,000 of its most active customers.
"Now, the company has decided to partially honor the offer with $100 in promotional credits and a pair of complimentary passes to the buffet for each of the 55,000 customers who received the mailing. The offer is valid through December 25.
"If all 55,000 customers were allowed to redeem $100 credits for five straight weeks, as the mailing offered, plus two $14 buffet visits, it would cost the casino more than $29 million. The make-up offer could still cost more than $7 million..."
