Olympics Gambling Heads for Record

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by Bloomberg: "The Winter Olympics in Turin, northern Italy, will attract record bets in the U.K. because of increased television coverage and more online gambling, Ladbrokes said today.
"Wagers at U.K. bookmakers may surge tenfold to more than 10 million pounds (US$17.4 million) from four years ago, boosted by Internet sales from regions including Scandinavia, according to the world's largest bookmaker, a unit of Hilton Group Plc.
"…More than 2 billion people will watch tomorrow's opening ceremony for the 20th winter sports showpiece, the Turin Olympic Committee said on its Web site. Events start the following day and continue through Feb. 26."
