No Progress Made in Video-Lottery Talks

SACRAMENTO -- As reported by the Press-Enterprise: "The fate of hundreds of video-lottery terminals at two Inland tribal casinos Monday seemed to edge closer to a courtroom.

"Meeting for about 90 minutes, representatives of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and the Schwarzenegger administration failed to reach a resolution on the devices, which the governor's office contends violate the tribe's 1999 compact with the state.

"If there is no deal by Jan. 7, the administration could go to court to void the compact. No additional meetings have been set.

"...Division investigators have concluded that video-lottery terminals at the Morongo tribe's Cabazon-area casino and at a casino run by the Pechanga Band of LuiseƱo Indians near Temecula violate the compact's limit of 2,000 slot machines per tribe..."
