New York to Conduct Tribal Casino Hearings

ALBANY, New York – As reported by the Albany Times-Union: "The Senate announced Wednesday it will conduct hearings on Gov. George Pataki's plan to allow five tribes to settle land claims and build casinos in the Catskills.
"Saying the state needs the hundreds of millions of dollars expected from five casinos to pay for public education, Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, R-Brunswick, said the Senate will hold hearings on Feb. 28 in Albany and on March 3 in Monticello. Bruno said he wants to wrap up the review process swiftly.
"…The tribes include the Wisconsin Oneida, the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans of Wisconsin, the St. Regis Mohawks, the Cayuga Nation of New York and the Seneca-Cayuga of Oklahoma…"
