Mississippi county vote delayed

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "The Jackson County Board of Supervisors on Monday postponed voting on a resolution that would declare the board opposed to a Mississippi Choctaw Band of Indians casino in the county.

"As Supervisor Frank Leach was absent, the officials agreed to wait until all five members are present for the vote, which has been set for the Nov. 26 meeting.

"In e-mails sent to media and each supervisor, Leach said he had medical appointments. He also accused Supervisors John McKay and Manly Barton of attacking him and lying about alleged violations of the state's open meetings law.

"The day before statewide elections Nov. 6, Leach said he and three other supervisors had visited Choctaw resorts and held illegal talks with former Choctaw Chief Phillip Martin before the tribe made public its intention to build a gaming resort on its property in Ocean Springs..."
