Mississippi Casino Employees Laid Off

MISSISSIPPI – As reported by the Mississippi Clarion-Ledger: "Pearl River Resort in Neshoba County laid off 87 employees over the weekend, citing decreased demand for table games at Silver Star and Golden Moon casinos.

"…'There were no layoffs anywhere other than the table games,' said company President Jay Dorris.

"The resort, owned by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, plans to reduce the number of table games at the Silver Star and Golden Moon from 127 to 85.

"…More slot machines will be installed at the resort, most of them at Golden Moon, Dorris said. There will be 46 table games at the Silver Star and 39 at the Golden Moon. The two casinos have about 4,300 slots.

"Dorris said table games players like the interaction of players and the dealer, whereas slot machine players like the immediate gratification the machines provide…"
