Matchbook.com and Sam Trickett end poker sponsorship deal on a high

LONDON -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Matchbook and Sam Trickett today announce they have mutually agreed to end their poker sponsorship arrangement.

Trickett has headlined a stable of elite poker players that Matchbook has sponsored at poker events around the world. At this year’s World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas, Trickett took second place in the $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop tournament while wearing the Matchbook brand, winning over $10 million and becoming Europe’s all-time money winner in poker.

A spokesman for Matchbook.com commented, “We have long believed that Sam is one of the best poker players in the world, and his success over the last two years is well deserved. We have been honoured to have Sam as the face of the Matchbook Poker team in which his results were nothing short of phenomenal. Sam is a huge asset for any brand, and we fully expect him to secure a sponsorship deal with one of the biggest dedicated poker sites around.”

Sam Trickett said, “I’m extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to compete in the biggest tournament in this history of poker and it was an experience that will live for me forever.”

Matchbook.com, a betting exchange, offered a variety of poker betting markets during the WSOP and has been keen to establish a brand presence amongst the players and community. The Matchbook spokesman commented, “Our sponsorship strategy with Sam has always been targeted towards the Big One for One Drop event. While we do expect to maintain an interest in poker moving forward through a variety of poker markets for popular European and worldwide events, Matchbook now looks to focus on its core business as a sports betting exchange.”


Matchbook.com has also been involved in the production of a documentary on Sam Trickett, centered on his involvement in the One Drop tournament and exploring his rise to becoming one of the world’s best poker players and biggest names in the game. Sam enjoyed his part in making the documentary with Matchbook and said, “It’s been a lot of fun filming this and I’m looking forward to seeing the outcome myself.” The documentary will first be shown on national TV in the U.K .later on this year with an online version released soon after.
