Jeff Lisandro signs with Southern Cross Poker
AUSTRALIA -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- One of Australia's best-known poker players, Jeff 'The Iceman' Lisandro, has signed an agreement to become the first player to be sponsored by online poker site Southern Cross Poker.
Born in Perth, Lisandro is recognised as one of the world's foremost cash-game players. He has also compiled an imposing tournament record with wins in Holland, Russia, Australia (the inaugural Canberra national championship in 1996), Austria and the USA.
Lisandro has reached the final table of World Series of Poker events in four different disciplines – pot limit hold'em, Omaha, seven-card stud and deuce-to-seven lowball. In May 2005, he celebrated his biggest tournament win with victory in the WSOP Circuit Series event at Lake Tahoe, Nevada after going heads-up with Phil Ivey (who is widely recognised as the world's best poker player).
But his biggest payout was for a 17th (out of a field of 8773) in the 2006 World Series of Poker main event, worth more than $650,000.
Lisandro said he was proud to lend his name to Southern Cross Poker, and will play an active role in the site's development.
"Southern Cross Poker is an exciting venture. I look forward to working with the Southern Cross team and promoting the site throughout the world," Lisandro said.
Under his agreement with Southern Cross Poker, Lisandro will also offer specialist coaching for poker players at Sydney's newest poker room, the PokerDome.
PokerDome director Chris Levick said Lisandro's commitment to the PokerDome was a massive coup for the new venue and Sydney poker players.
"Jeff is one of the world's best players so we're thrilled that he'd take the time to share some of the secrets of his success with PokerDome players," Levick said.
