High-street bookies face challenge to survive

29 Apr 2011

ENGLAND -- It is the 50th anniversary this week of the legalisation of betting shops in England and their challenge has never been greater, The Guardian reported.

Online gambling is booming and the betting shops risk being left behind, which explains why companies like William Hill and Ladbrokes have invested handsomely in their online operations, the report explained.

The most popular product in the betting shops is virtual roulette, which generates 40 percent of revenue, The Guardian noted.
