Euromillions jackpot at £88 million

7 Sep 2007

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Euromillions is celebrating with a guaranteed superdraw payout of a staggering £88,000,000 on Friday 28 September says Lottery.co.uk.

Whereas jackpot prize funds are normally rolled over to the next draw if they aren't won, this £88 million jackpot (which equates to around $176,000,000 or €130 million) is certain to be paid out as part of the celebrations.

The Euromillions lottery is one of the biggest success stories in global lottery history. Launched on 13 February, 2004, the lottery was originally played in just three countries, and was operated by the national lottery operators of each participating nation -- Camelot in the UK, the Francaise des Jeux in France and the Loterias y Apuestas des Estad in Spain. Today Euromillions is played in nine European countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.

The biggest Euromillions jackpot so far stands at €183,573,077. This was shared between three jackpot winners in February 2006. The biggest individual winner so far is Dolores McNamara from Ireland. She won €115,000,000 in July 1995 and traded her modest bungalow in for a mansion.

To win the jackpot, players need to match 5 main numbers from 50 plus 2 "Lucky Star" numbers from 9. The odds of doing this are 1 in 76,275,360. If you don't win the jackpot, 11 other tiers of lesser prizes are available, and the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.
