Empire Resorts, St. Regis Mohawk Tribe split gets messy
MONTICELLO, New York -- As reported by the Mid-Hudson News: "The breakup of the agreement between Empire Resorts and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe to build a gaming casino resort at Monticello Raceway is turning into a 'he said, she said' situation of sorts.
"Empire Resorts said it still wants to move forward with the casino, if the feds ever allow the off-reservation land trust, but in the meantime, it is partnering with Concord Associates to move the racetrack and video slot machine operation to the former Concord Hotel site and construct a large hotel-conference center.
"The Mohawks say Empire Resorts told them their arrangement expired at the end of last year. Empire said they want to continue their relationship.
"The Tribe Tuesday said it was breaking from the Empire deal. Late Wednesday, Empire issued a statement that contradicting the Tribe's allegation that Empire's new partner, Concord Associates, would not support their casino project at the raceway..."
