Davydenko addresses tennis gambling inquiry
NEW YORK -- As reported by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "In his most extensive comments since the ATP ordered an investigation into the extraordinary amount of money bet on his low-ranked opponent in a match in Poland, Nikolay Davydenko talked Monday about the difficulty of fighting off the intense press focus and chided reports that a Russian Mafia might be involved.
"...He's been the subject of countless press reports since a match in Sopot in early August in which he retired in the third set with a foot injury against Martin Vassallo Arguello of Argentina, who was ranked 83 spots below Davydenko at No. 87.
"...The ATP has hired an independent investigator to determine if there was an attempt to fix the Vassallo Arguello-Davydenko match. Davydenko won't be interviewed until after the U.S. Open..."
