Bookmakers under pressure to share their revenue from football with the sport
LONDON, England -- As reported by the Daily Telegraph: "Governing bodies in the UK and Europe are increasingly pressing for legislation that would allow them to sell bookmakers the right to make markets on their competitions, and Lord Triesman used his appearance before a parliamentary hearing into the state of football governance, to press for action.
"'I see no reason why the gambling industry should be able to make use of the football industry to make money, but make no contribution of that revenue to football.'
"Triesman's intervention comes as momentum builds within the sports movement for legislation at domestic or European level, that would enable them to sell gambling rights in the same way that they market television rights..."
