LONDON, England -- The British government has proposed a plan that would see bookmakers paying into a fund that would be reinvested in sport, according to a report in The Guardian.
The fund is being proposed under a new voluntary code, according to The Guardian.
The betting industry is underwhelmed by the proposal describing the plan as "ill conceived" and have called for more consultation, the report noted.
