LONDON, England -- Bets placed via smartphones and cell phones have increased enormously, according to The Guardian.

Devices such as the iPhone see customers choosing to place their bets this route, the report explained.

This choice is reflected in companies like Betfair and Paddy Power reporting "huge growth" in mobile customers and mobile customer revenue, The Guardian reported.

One set of figures released this week put mobile gambling revenue in the UK up to £41m in 2010 from £19m in 2009, the report noted.
