Atlantic City Union Rejects Caesars, Harrah's Offer

29 Sep 2004

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Five more casinos edged closer to a strike Tuesday after members of Local 54 of Unite Here unanimously rejected a final five-year contract offer from Harrah's Entertainment Inc. and Caesars Entertainment Inc., union President Robert McDevitt said.

"…'The economic proposal from Harrah's and Caesars can get us to an agreement,' McDevitt said, 'But not on a five-year deal and not under the current wage scale.'

"He said he objected to the scale because it was structured to keep people from receiving the top wage.

"… Harrah's owns Harrah's Atlantic City and the Showboat Casino Hotel. Caesars is the owner of Caesars Atlantic City, Bally's Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort…"
